About RK Heating, Plumbing, Cooling

Maine's Trusted Heating Experts

The Premier Heat Pump & Furnace Service Company

RK Heating, Plumbing, Cooling is a licensed HVAC, heat pump, and plumbing service company based in Farmington, Maine, serving homeowners and businesses across Central and Western Maine since 1988. Owner Rick Karkos founded the company and continues to lead it, bringing 38 years of hands-on technical experience to every job.

Our History

In Business Since 1988

Rick Karkos started RK Heating, Plumbing, Cooling in 1988, working mostly on furnaces for homeowners around Farmington. As the business grew, so did what it could handle. Over the decades we added heating and cooling services, plumbing repair, small excavation work, and water systems, building out a full-service shop instead of staying a one-trick outfit. Heat pumps became a bigger part of the work as more Maine homes switched over, and we kept pace with the training and certifications to service them properly. Nearly four decades later, we're still rooted between Farmington and Paris, still doing the same hands-on work that started the company, just with a lot more under our belt.

Meet The Owner

Rick Karkos, Owner and Founder

Rick earned his associate's degree in HVAC before picking up a Millwright Certification and becoming a Roth Oil Tank Certified Installer, and he's spent 38 years putting that training to work in homes across Central and Western Maine. He started RK Heating, Plumbing, Cooling in 1988 because he wanted to do the work his own way, showing up, doing it right, and standing behind it. One thing that sets him apart: he'll take on heat pump service and repair for units other companies installed but won't touch once something goes wrong. If your heat pump needs attention and the company that put it in won't call you back, Rick will.

Why RK

What Sets RK Apart

With 38 years in the trade, we've built RK Heating, Plumbing, Cooling into a full-service shop covering heating, cooling, plumbing, small excavation, and water systems, so most jobs don't need a second contractor. One thing customers bring up often is that we'll service heat pumps other companies installed but won't stand behind. We're also a registered Efficiency Maine Rebates Partner, which can help offset the cost of qualifying installations. Every technician we send out is licensed, certified, and insured, and we cover a 25- to 50-mile radius out of Farmington and Paris, reaching homes and businesses across Central and Western Maine.

Our Approach

How We Approach the Work

We show up when we say we will. That's the baseline, and it matters more than people expect. Once we're on site, we give you an honest read on what's actually wrong, not a list of upsells you didn't ask for. If a repair will do the job, we say so instead of pushing a replacement. We finish the work to a standard we'd want in our own homes, and we treat your house the way we'd want a contractor treating ours: floors covered, mess cleaned up, and doors shut behind us.

Rebates

Efficiency Maine Rebates: What You Should Know

RK Heating, Plumbing, Cooling is a registered Efficiency Maine partner, and qualifying heating and cooling systems, including  heat pumps, boilers, furnaces, and heat pump water heaters, may be eligible for state rebates and incentives. Rebate amounts and eligibility rules change from time to time, so we always recommend confirming the current numbers with us at the time of service rather than relying on older figures you may have seen online.
